What Was GamesMaster?
GamesMaster ran from 1992-1998 on the British television station Channel 4. It was the first ever UK Television show to be dedicated to computer and video games, and despite it's early evening time slot of 6:30pm it also broken ground for how many double entendres and innuendo could be crammed into a pre-watershed programme without raising the ire of irate mothers and church goers everywhere.
The show spawned a number of live events, numerous immitators and a tie-in gaming magazine that outlived the original run of the show by over 2 and a half decades. It also influenced and corrupted a generation of gamers who learnt quite emphatically that there was more than one way to interpret the phrase 'waggle your joystick'.
We love being active on Twitter! The account is manned by both Ash and Luke, and our DM's are always open. We'll tweet about games both old and new, relevant period items of pop culture and occasionally shameless plugs for our other projects.
Luke regularly posts updates about our podcast release schedule, as well as relevant clips and snippets from the episodes of GamesMaster we happen to be talking about!
How old school! But still more plausible than sending us an actual letter. E-mail us via the linked contact form. It's that easy!
Discord! It's what all the cool kids are using! It's like IRC... with animated gifs. And emojis. Ok, so it's not that much like IRC, but we're old and we're not sure what we're doing. Come help us fumble around in the dark.
That sounded a lot better in my head. Every Thursday Ash logs on to twitch for a two part show, the first half being a suitably retro long play of a game, and the second half is a more casual playthrough based on viewer suggestions.
What does backing us on Patreon get you? At the lowest level, our eternal gratitude and love, at a second level we add in episodes a week early and advert free, and at the top tier you get all of the prior benefits AND a merch pack containing some Patreon exclusive items.
Join Luke & Ash as they dive into a nostalgia filled trip through every episode of 90s UK video game competition show GamesMaster! Expect classic game reviews, nostalgia chat, and humongous innuendos that will get your joysticks waggling.
